The Design Process

  1. The homeowner determines what the house will include.
  2. The architect prepares a concept sketch or schematic showing the general arrangements of the site and the house.
  3. Upon homeowner approval, the architect then prepares drawings made to scale, outlines materials and room finishes
  4. Upon homeowner approval, the architect then prepares a detailed fl oor plan, including specifications.
  5. The homeowner uses these fi nalized documents as part of the building contract and to establish actual construction costs with contractors. The architect can help review contractor bids based on the construction documents.
  6. The architect can then act as the homeowner’s agent during construction, overseeing the quality and pace of construction, and making sure any problems are rectified.
