Architects & Residential Designers

In order to put your plans on paper, you will need an
architect or draftsman.

Both draftsmen and architects draw up house plans, but an architect will also help you plan and design the house to best suit your needs.

Their amount of involvement is completely up to you. You can work with an architect solely to review and modify your house plans or hire one to represent you throughout
the entire building process.

how to choose an architect

  1. After narrowing your list of potential architects, set up
interviews with a few top choices.
  2. Discuss your portfolio and what you have in mind:
Site/lot location, including the topography of the land; List of objectives; Written list of basic needs, wants and dreams; Overall budget; Time frame for completion
  3. Observe, does the architect work with you, helping you expand on your ideas, or do they try to impose a
    certain style?
  4. Do they have a valid architect’s license?
  5. How long have they been in the industry?
  6. Is the architect you are working with the one who will
    be designing your project?
  7. What services do they provide?
  8. How do they charge for their services? Do they charge by the hour or a fl at fee based on the square footage or budget of the home? What is the estimated fee?
  9. Can they estimate construction costs?
  10. What is the process and fee for project design changes?
  11. Look through their portfolio of past projects.
  12. Contact references.
